Privacy Policy

The short version
Ext Decoder does not require an account, does not ask for personal information, and does not upload, transmit, or store anything you type into the lookup tool. Filename parsing and the entire extension dataset run locally in your browser using static, bundled code — your input never leaves your device as part of using the tool.
What we do not collect
Analytics
This site uses Google Analytics (Google's "gtag.js") to understand aggregate traffic patterns — roughly how many people visit, which pages are popular, general device/browser type, and approximate geographic region. Google Analytics operates by setting cookies in your browser and may process your IP address to derive that approximate region.
This is entirely separate from the lookup tool itself. Google Analytics only knows that someone visited a given page (e.g. "/file-extension/heic/") — it does not, and cannot, see what you type into the filename input, since that never leaves your browser as described above. We do not use Analytics data to identify individual visitors.
See Google's Privacy Policy for how Google handles this data. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all sites using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or block cookies/trackers generally via your browser's privacy settings or an ad/tracker blocker.
What may be collected by our hosting provider
This site is hosted as static files on Cloudflare Pages. Like virtually any website, the underlying infrastructure that delivers these pages to your browser may process standard technical request data (such as IP address, user agent, and request timestamps) as part of normal web delivery and security (e.g. DDoS protection) — this is handled entirely by Cloudflare's infrastructure, not by any code we wrote, and we do not have access to per-visitor logs. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy for details on how they handle this.
Cookies & local browser storage
Aside from the cookies Google Analytics sets (see Analytics above), this site does not use cookies or browser storage (localStorage/sessionStorage) of its own to remember anything about you between visits. If that changes, this policy will be updated to say exactly what is stored and why.
Third-party links
Pages on this site link to third-party software vendors' names (for informational purposes, e.g. "commonly opened with Adobe Photoshop") and to our other projects. We aren't responsible for the privacy practices of any external site you navigate to.
Children's privacy
This site does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the "last updated" date above will change accordingly. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated policy.
